The overarching theme for 80x24.org is to reduce cost to use
and develop Free Software. That includes reducing transfer and
storage costs, improving performance and lowering memory usage
while preserving freedom from vendor lock-in.
Unfortunately, some of these goals conflict...
Better performance and low memory usage often require more
development time and more difficult-to-use languages.
Scripting languages reduce distribution and verifiability overhead;
as there's no need to deal with reproducible builds or providing
per-architecture binaries; but often at reduced performance
than compiled languages.
