Hmm, I've not hacked apmd stuff in ages, but as I recall
it didn't ship with any configuration-specific support in
its scripts -- stuff like "cardctl" and "service" commands.
Are you positive those aren't distro bugs?
In general it'd make more sense to start networking
first, I suspect..
