Sorry to ask such an awkward question, but is it realistic to hope that
Linux will have working drivers for PCI-e DVB cards within the next year
or two?

This affects a buying decision for me. If driver support is expected I'd
rather get a cheap, used DVB-S card now as a stop-gap until I can
replace it with a PCI-e DVB-S2 card, but if that's too optimistic I
should get a DVB-S2 PCI card now.

I have not seen a PCI Express DVB-S2 card at all.

Can you point me to a vendor who is producing DVB-S2 PCI-Express cards?

Thank you, Artem

Yes.

There are drivers for the Micronas dual PCIe DVB-S2 prototype and a
new card loosely based on this design (but e.g. with new tuners/demod)
might be available in a couple of months.

AFAIK, Manu has also been working on cards based on the Philips/NXP
PCIe bridge.

If I remember right, when I was searching for DVB-S2-able cards
a couple days ago, there is a new vendor of products, based in
Poland, `X3M', with a number of interesting products available.

Many of the products appear to be based on Conexant cx88-type
demodulators, with various tuner chips, many of which already
have linux-dvb support.

I think there's a hybrid PCI-e card from them.

Of interest to me, if anyone should know, they also have a
DVB-S2 USB device, apparently with supplied Linux drivers --
but the used chipsets aren't listed on the vendor page.

Does anyone know if these various devices will get their
vendor/product IDs added to the sourcecode, or might someone
be able to add info to the Wiki about these products, and
fill in the missing chipset info from their product list?

thanks,
barry bouwsma

Yes, I saw something about that in the list archives etc, but there
didn't seem to be any recent news.

This has been quite a helpful thread, so thanks everyone. It's helped
strengthen my opinion that it does make sense to "wait and see" with
DVB-S2 and get the cheap option for now, although most people would
rather get a DVB-S2 card straight away.

And least we not forget, there has been a working driver for the
Conexant PCIe bridge for a good while now, supporting several cards!
