Hi :)
I noticed that 2 releases ago (1.2.6) the mangle table
acquired some new chains... 3 to be exact. How do
these new chains effect the flow of packets? Does
anyone have it laid out somewhere? I am really trying
hard to imagine the benefits of adding those
particular chains, since the docs said never to filter
in the mangle table. Could someone enumerate on this
please? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

On this same topic, I just updated the iptables tutorial, which contains
updates which should hopefully reflect the mangle5hooks.patch. Would
anyone take a look at
http://iptables-tutorial.frozentux.net/images/tables_traverse.jpg and tell
me if it's wrong?

As a sidenote, Kevin, you may also be interested in that image since it is
pretty much what you asked for:).

Thanks,

Oskar

Erh, the problem is that it's been moving too many times. boingworld.com
went down, and I moved to another site which had problems staying up, and
so on so forth. I finally got my own domain (frozentux.net) so I would get
away from that problem, and haringstad.com, which hosts me,offers
extremely good service/uptime/speed. Sorry for the advertising, but
considering how things are, they deserve it:).

Anyways, the tutorials etc _should_ stay at www.frozentux.net for a long
time now since I actually own that domain myself.

Screwup, use this link for now. It should work:

http://iptables-tutorial.frozentux.net/chunkyhtml/images/tables_traverse.jpg

I will have a look at the other image and see to it that it's updated.

Fixed... bad error on my part, sorry for that.

I have thought about it before, yupp, but I got this really bad
inferiority complex, which means I'll probably never be satisfied enough
with this piece to actually submit it:).

On a slight more serious note though, would they accept "tutorials"? I
don't know...

Aha! That is exactly what I was looking for. I
wondered whatever happened to your tutorial. I hadn't
seen an update to it in a long time. I imagine that
since you aren't really paid for it, it's probably a
pretty daunting task. I checked all old resourse links
and the links either timed out or were at the old
version. Thank you very kindly for this update. I post
your tutorial to many newbies. It's very well written.

Many thanks to you and keep up the great work!

If they are providing better uptime, that is a good
thing. Have you ever thought about submitting it to
http://tldp.org/ They have quite a large userbase and
probably the largest collection of HOW-TO's out there.

Are you serious? This is a GREAT piece of work! There
is nothing inferior about it. It is perfectly drawn
out in easy to read terms.

Sure... a HOW-TO and a tutorial are the same thing,
aren't they? It tells me HOW TO use it, HOW it works
and it's even updated very frequently. You would also
benefit by having many more eyes looking at the
project itself. You know what they say about many
pairs of eyes. ;)
